TDI Cavern Diver Course
The TDI Cavern Diver course is designed to develop the essential skills and knowledge for diving in caverns within the natural light zone. You will learn planning, procedures, propulsion techniques, and gas management specific to overhead environments, while understanding the risks associated with cavern diving. This course is not full cave training, but a safe foundation to progress to higher levels such as Intro to Cave.
Prerequisites:
- Minimum age: 18 years (15 with parental consent)
- SDI Open Water Scuba Diver certification or equivalent
- 25 logged open water dives.
- SDI Deep Diver certification or demonstrable deep diving experience if dives exceed 18 meters during the course.
Once certified, you will be able to:
- Participate in cavern dives without direct supervision, while adhering to training limits.
- Dive exclusively within the natural light zone.
- Limit penetration to one-third of the available gas.
- Maintain a maximum penetration of 61 linear meters from the surface.
- Dive to a maximum depth of 40 meters, no-decompression.
- Use a continuous guideline and cavern-specific equipment.
- Enroll in the TDI Intro to Cave course.
What you will learn:
- Cavern diving policies and rules.
- Gas management procedures.
- Psychological considerations and stress management.
- Cavern-specific equipment setup.
- Underwater communication: hand signals, light signals, and touch signals.
- Trim, buoyancy, line-following, and specialized propulsion techniques.
- Stress control.
- Cavern environment.
- Cavern conservation and etiquette.
- Emergency procedures and problem-solving.
Practical skills:
- Proper deployment and following of the guideline.
- Line-following in low-visibility conditions.
- Air sharing along the guideline using visual and touch contact.
- Removing and replacing the mask while maintaining reference to the guideline.
- Use of hand, light, and touch signals.
- Anti-silt propulsion techniques.
- Primary light failure management and backup light deployment.
- Precise buoyancy control, horizontal trim, and stress assessment.
- Exploration within natural light limits while maintaining continuous reference.
Course Duration and Price:
- This course has a duration of 4 full days.
